What to Expect? COVID-19 Trends Summary in Early 2020

When you think about making travel plans for 2020, you will most likely first consider what place may be one of the safest places to travel to during the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak. On February 12th, 2020, China had reached its peak of coronavirus infections, reporting 16,265 new confirmed cases in just one day. However, on March 11th, 2020, China had only 25 new cases confirmed across the entire country. At the same date, while the number of new confirmed cases is declining significantly in China, the World Health Organization (WHO) recently announced that the COVID-19 outbreak can be characterized as a pandemic due to the rates of infection continuing to rise in many countries in Asia, Europe, and across the United States.

While the number of cases in Europe and the US grow by the thousands each day, China has made an amazing effort to contain the virus and stop its spread so that people may live safely.

Coronavirus Control in Airports - Shanghai

Shanghai Epidemic Control Center requests those who are affected by the virus at the airport in Shanghai be escorted home or to a quarantine hotel by chartered buses to minimize their contact with others. Those who are sent home are visited by a worker from the residential committee, a police officer, and a doctor from the local center for disease control and prevention to remind them of the mandatory 14-day isolation period to follow.

Citizens Preventing Coronavirus from Spreading

Individual Chinese citizens have also done their best to stop the spread since the outbreak. Most people were very careful to wear masks, wash their hands frequently, and quarantine themselves in their homes. Shops and restaurants also request customers to check their temperature and provide sterilizer in the entrance to protect other customers from the coronavirus. The extensive sanitization and social distancing help people in China to isolate the virus and flatten the epidemic curve in a short amount of time.

Fighting COVID-19 pandemic with countries worldwide

China has controlled and stabilized the epidemic there so effectively that other countries are looking to China as a model and potential aid-provider. In fact, China has recently sent a team over to Italy to help curb the spread of the virus there, reported from China Daily. This team was led by the Red Cross Society of China and an expert from the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention.
